Rachael GRAY THOMPSON

ABOUT
Born in Lincolnshire, UK, and a graduate of Preston Polytechnic with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992, Rachael began her career as a graphic designer in London and later in Paris, working for major brands. Today, she naturally devotes herself entirely to painting, exploring various techniques to capture the unique contrasts that shape the landscapes of the Luberon. Her themes often center around Bonnieux and its surroundings. The techniques she uses include oil, acrylic, watercolour, and gouache.
Her works are the result of observations made during her wanderings along paths rich in nature and history, created from sketches and her passion for photography. After many years of painting with precision and detail, Rachael felt the need to loosen her technique, leading her to simplify subjects through shadow and light. This evolution has brought about a new and liberating sense of confidence, expressed through intuitive colors, shapes, and strokes.

OIL
Huile
Exploring the dynamic world of oil painting with a knife has opened new avenues for my creativity. By applying colours wet into wet, I embrace the simplicity of block work, reminiscent of my gouache techniques. I've discovered that limiting my palette to the three primary colours not offers endless possibilities but also maintains a cohesive look throughout my work.

GOUACHE
In this collection there are several themes.
I discovered gouache looking for depth, opacity and texture in watercolour. Starting off with my homemade gouache, enhanced with marble powder for a beautiful finish, today I use tubes. All starting on lnstagram with a "Sketch a Day" project @rachaelgt, please feel free to follow me and press on the icon at the bottom of the page. Today I use just three primary colours that give me the spectrum I need.
These are 10cm squares .
